This was originally conceived to be a sort of stoplight-system for neighbors to indicate when they were at home and did not want to be disturbed but then got used for all sorts of applications.
Based on Arduino, it features a 433 MHz RF transmitter that can go through walls pretty well, and the corresponding receiver that can switch LEDs or relays or whatever you have on the other side.
